are we less valued

It is a proven fact that P.R adds value in any organization but it is not always appreciated by management, which is why we have to calculate it. That is we as music publicist needs to know where our news is published and actually how many people read it and how our message is perceived.
That is why we publicist choose to measure our efforts and here are some of the few
Ø  media monitoring,
Ø   Clipping services.
Ø  and mentions

That is why as music publicist we need to always measure our comings, so that we can always show our records labels and clients that we are a return on investment.
So future music publicist brace yourself because you are going in a competitive industry that require you to show them why they need to hire you unlike marketing which could be actually measured by sales. P.R also plays a contributing factor but the recognition is not always given.

The influence of new media in the radio and pr industry

the new way of radio

the new life of radio
picadapted:media sun
Radio has always been there and always loved by many but time have changed, times have changed where music artist and record labels owners used to beg for air play and the reason for that is the new media invading the radio industry, because now social network’s audience have a say on what they want to hear on the radio, they go as far as making their playlist on Facebook and twitter their control, their own content.

but the biggest threat to the radio industry is the new pop culture of other new media that actually makes a lot of sense than radio like icons, radio iPods and the loss of audience loyalty. This is really not good for a music publicist like me, the question I would like to ask is where does it put the future of music publicist because if the radio loose more and more of their audience that means that we are losing our targeted audience and that means no more free publicity making public relations less relevant to the music industry.

nyda supporting musician to make their mark

it is believed indoor for a country to succeed in has to invest on it youth, but how come as the youth we cannot go banks and borrow money so that we can start own music labels or even study music or is it the fact that music is still taken as a hobby and not a serious business.

The national youth development agency (nyda) is a governmental agency that seeks to empower and develop the youth by funding them in their business ideas and also running mentorship programmes.

And this year The nyda has partnered with dj united (dju) and the sabc radio on the 7th annual southern African music awards, take part initiative to empower the many young people who have talent and passion for music by offering them business skills within the music industry in the following field
Ø  Producers
Ø  Songwriters
Ø  Djs
Ø  And recording label ownership
Thanks to organisations like the nyda that understands that it is possible to make passion and talent into a business, just like me always wanted to become a musician but pity I did not have the talent of sing and rapping but because of the passion I have for music and public relations I was able to fuse the both and make a career out of it as a music publicist

67mintues or publicity stunts

NELSON MANDELA COVERBOOK PICTURE
PICTURE ADPATED FROM:

It is said that there is no such thing as bad publicity and whatever you do you should try and do something that will attract the media so that you can get your free publicity.
As public relations practitioners we should advise our organisation and clients to take Mandela day and use it to make a difference in underprivileged communities. Now the question that lies among publicists is whether we should take Mandela day and turn it into a publicity stunt or whether we should be ethical about it and not seek for any media exposure, but turn it into a true altruism?
Some of the celebrities who took part in the so-called publicity stunt on Mandel day were:
v  Record label owner and artist Arthur Mafokate,
v  Afro-soul sensation Zahara, who sang a birthday so with millions of kids,
v  Former miss South Africa Bokang Montlane who spent time with the Nashua children’s Foundation and
v  last but not least Basic education Minister Angie Motshekga, who donated gifts to people in the Free State.
The question therefore stands if we publicist should be ethical and not try to use the Mandela day to get publicity but try to bring change without seeking media exposure read more
